Bharat Ratna Award History: ঐতিহাসিক পটভূমি:
দেশের জন্য অসামান্য অবদানের স্বীকৃতি দেওয়ার জন্য একটি বেসামরিক পুরস্কারের ধারণাটি ভারতের প্রথম রাষ্ট্রপতি ডঃ রাজেন্দ্র প্রসাদ প্রথম চালু করেছিলেন। প্রাথমিকভাবে “ভারত রত্ন” বলা হয়, পুরস্কারটি 2শে জানুয়ারী, 1954-এ রাষ্ট্রপতির বিজ্ঞপ্তির মাধ্যমে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। এই সম্মানের প্রথম প্রাপক ছিলেন ডঃ সর্বপল্লী রাধাকৃষ্ণন, চক্রবর্তী রাজাগোপালাচারী এবং সি.ভি. রমন।
